To opt out of PeopleFinders, go to peoplefinders.com/opt-out, search your name and state, then click Next under Public Record Removal. Enter your name and email, pass the CAPTCHA, and send the request. PeopleFinders emails a verification link that expires in 24 hours; click it and complete the second form. Removal usually takes 3 to 7 days.

The trap

A PeopleFinders opt-out suppresses the records it controls from its own search results; it does not erase you from its underlying database, and it does not reach the aggregators upstream that refill it. The fastest way to lose your removal is to ignore the 24-hour verification email, so file it when you have your inbox open.

The method

PeopleFinders opt-out, step by step

Easy, but the verification link expires in 24 hours and PeopleFinders shares data with sister sites, so plan to re-check.

  1. 01 Open the PeopleFinders opt-out page

    Go to peoplefinders.com/opt-out directly. You do not have to find your public listing first: the opt-out tool has its own search. You can also reach it from the Do Not Sell My Info link in the site footer, which lands on the same form.

  2. 02 Find and select your record

    Enter your first and last name and your state, then choose the record that is genuinely you. Match on age and city before you claim it. Under Public Record Removal, click Next to start the request.

  3. 03 Enter your name and email, then send

    Fill in your name and an email address you can open in the next few minutes, complete the CAPTCHA, and click Send Request. Use a real inbox you check, not a throwaway, because the next step happens in your email.

  4. 04 Click the verification link within 24 hours

    PeopleFinders emails a confirmation link that expires in about a day. Open it, then complete the short second form it opens to confirm the record is yours. The request does nothing until you finish this step, and the expiry is the reason people think they opted out when they did not.

  5. 05 Confirm after 48 hours, then re-check monthly

    Most public-record removals finish in 3 to 7 days, though PeopleFinders allows itself up to 15. Search your name on peoplefinders.com in a private window to confirm the listing is suppressed. Then set a reminder for about 30 days out: the site refreshes from public records and partner feeds, so a listing can reappear under a new address.
