LexisNexis Opt Out: LexisNexis Freeze and Security Freeze

The short answer

LexisNexis runs three separate consumer requests and they do different jobs. The opt out at consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/optrequest removes you from prescreened credit and insurance offer lists and from LexisNexis direct marketing products, and it can take up to 30 days. A security freeze is the stronger request: it stops LexisNexis Risk Solutions and SageStream from releasing your consumer disclosure report at all without your express authorization, and it is free to apply, lift, or remove. Neither one deletes your file, so pull your consumer disclosure report first and see what is actually in it.

This guide is free and complete, and it is honest about the limit: LexisNexis Risk Solutions is not a site you can be deleted from, so what follows restricts who your file is shared with rather than erasing it. You need pay nobody to do it, including us. If you would rather not work through 44 more companies yourself, that is what Dataremoval is for.

Last updated August 2026. Steps checked in August 2026 against the LexisNexis Risk Solutions consumer portal at consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com, including its own opt-out and security-freeze pages, and against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau entry for the C.L.U.E. report. Where LexisNexis does not publish a processing time, this guide says so rather than guessing one. We take no commission from LexisNexis Risk Solutions or from any service named on this page.

What is exposed

What LexisNexis Risk Solutions holds about you

Consolidated public-record and consumer-report file used for identity, insurance, and risk products: address history, real estate and ownership records, liens, judgments, bankruptcies, professional licenses, vehicles, and insurance claims history.

None of it sits on a public profile page, which is what makes this kind of company easy to miss and hard to check. The steps below restrict who LexisNexis Risk Solutions may hand the file to rather than deleting it, and the file keeps growing underneath that restriction every time a new record matches your name.

Aggregators like this one are the reason people-search listings come back after you remove them, so it is worth understanding which data types are removable and reading the full guide to removing your information from the internet before you judge progress by what you can see.

The trap

The LexisNexis opt out does not touch the report that actually affects you. It covers marketing and prescreened offers, not the FCRA consumer reports that insurers, landlords, employers, and lenders buy. People file it, get a confirmation, and assume they are out of the system, while the insurance claims history and public-records file that priced their last quote sits exactly where it was. If you want that restricted, the security freeze is the request you need, and it is the one that is free and reversible.

The method

LexisNexis Risk Solutions opt-out, step by step

Hard, and not because the forms are complicated. LexisNexis wants your Social Security number or driver license number to match you, the requests arrive back by US Mail rather than email, and the three routes cover different things, so filing only the one people have heard of leaves the important half of your file untouched.

  1. 01 Request your consumer disclosure report before you file anything

Go to consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com and request your consumer disclosure report. It is free once every 12 months under the FACT Act, and free again if an insurer, lender, landlord, or employer just took adverse action based on it. The form needs your name, street address, city, ZIP, and date of birth, plus either your Social Security number or your driver license number and state. LexisNexis mails you a letter explaining how to open the report online. Filing a freeze or an opt out before you have read the file means you never find out what it says.

  2. 02 Read what is actually in the file

The consumer disclosure report covers real estate transactions and ownership, liens, judgments, bankruptcy records, professional licenses, and your address history. Depending on what LexisNexis holds on you it can also reach into insurance claims history and driving records, which are reported separately. Check every line. This is a Fair Credit Reporting Act file, which means errors in it have already been priced into an insurance quote or a rental decision somewhere.

  3. 03 Place the security freeze, which is the request that actually restricts sharing

A security freeze prohibits LexisNexis Risk Solutions and SageStream from releasing your consumer disclosure report without your express authorization. It is free to apply, free to lift temporarily, and free to remove, and LexisNexis says so on its own freeze page. File it online through the consumer portal, by phone on 1-800-456-1244, or by mail to LexisNexis Risk Solutions Consumer Center, Attn: Security Freeze, P.O. Box 105108, Atlanta, GA 30348-5108. Confirmation comes back by US Mail. Remember you will need to lift it yourself before applying for insurance or a rental, the same way a credit-bureau freeze works.

  4. 04 File the opt out, and file the right one of the three

The opt-out request at consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/optrequest is really three separate choices. Opting out of firm offers removes you from LexisNexis Risk Solutions and SageStream prescreen lists used for credit and insurance offers. Opting out of direct marketing stops your data being used in LexisNexis Risk Solutions FL Inc. direct marketing products. The public safety opt out removes your information from restricted public records, and it is for people at genuine risk: LexisNexis asks for supporting documentation such as a protective order, a police report, or a letter from a supervisor. Whichever you pick, the form wants your name and address, your date of birth, and your Social Security number or driver license number and state. LexisNexis states processing can take up to 30 days from receipt.

  5. 05 Dispute anything wrong, in writing, and keep the paperwork

Because these are FCRA consumer reports, you have a legal right to dispute anything inaccurate or incomplete, and the CFPB is explicit that companies must investigate a dispute free of charge. Dispute with LexisNexis and with whoever supplied the record, such as your insurer. A wrong claim on your file is worth more to fix than any opt out, because the opt out never touched it. Keep copies of everything you send and everything that comes back.

  6. 06 Re-check the file in a year, and after anything that creates a record

A freeze stays until you lift it, but your file keeps growing underneath it: LexisNexis ingests new deeds, liens, licenses, claims, and address changes continuously. Pull the free disclosure report again in 12 months, and pull it sooner after a move, a claim, a court filing, or a property purchase. If your goal is to be harder to find generally, this file is only one of the places you appear, so work the people-search sites separately.

Steps written against LexisNexis Risk Solutions's live flow in July 2026. Brokers move their forms without notice. If a step has moved, start from their opt-out page and the shape of the process will be the same. Tell us if it has changed: app@dataremoval.ai.

And then the other 44

LexisNexis Risk Solutions is one of them

The same address you just restricted at LexisNexis Risk Solutions is still published by the other brokers in our directory, and by the marketing aggregators that supply all of them. Restricting one is a good afternoon. Working through all of them, and keeping them restricted as new records refill, is a different kind of job.

Questions

LexisNexis Risk Solutions opt-out questions, answered

Should I opt out of LexisNexis?

Yes, but do not stop there, because the opt out is the weaker of the two requests. It removes you from prescreened credit and insurance offers and from LexisNexis direct marketing, which cuts junk mail. It does not restrict the consumer reports that insurers, landlords, and employers actually buy. For that you want the security freeze, which is free and reversible. Note also that this covers the LexisNexis and SageStream prescreen lists only: the four credit bureaus run their own separate opt-out, so file the prescreen opt-out at OptOutPrescreen.com as well if preapproved offers are what you are trying to stop.

What happens when you opt out of LexisNexis?

Your information comes out of the LexisNexis and SageStream prescreen lists used to generate firm offers of credit and insurance, and out of LexisNexis Risk Solutions FL Inc. direct marketing products. Your file is not deleted and your consumer disclosure report still exists. LexisNexis states processing can take up to 30 days from when it receives the request.

How to freeze LexisNexis

File the security freeze through the consumer portal at consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com, by phone on 1-800-456-1244, or by mail to LexisNexis Risk Solutions Consumer Center, Attn: Security Freeze, P.O. Box 105108, Atlanta, GA 30348-5108. It is free to apply, lift, or remove. Once processed, LexisNexis confirms by letter in the US Mail.

Does freezing LexisNexis also freeze SageStream?

Yes. LexisNexis describes the security freeze as prohibiting LexisNexis Risk Solutions and SageStream from releasing your consumer report without your express authorization, so one request covers both. It does not extend to Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion, which are separate companies with their own freezes you have to file yourself.

Can you freeze LexisNexis online?

Yes. The security freeze form is on the LexisNexis consumer portal, and the same portal handles a temporary lift or a permanent removal of the freeze later. Phone and mail are offered as alternatives. Expect to give your Social Security number or driver license number so LexisNexis can match the request to your file.

How long does a LexisNexis freeze take?

LexisNexis does not publish a processing time for the freeze. It says only that once the request is verified and processed you will get a confirmation letter by US Mail. Since the confirmation travels by post, plan for it in days rather than minutes, and do not file a freeze the morning you need an insurance quote.

How to unfreeze LexisNexis

Use the same consumer portal you used to place it. LexisNexis offers both a temporary lift, for when a specific company needs to pull your report, and a permanent removal. There is no fee for either. Do the lift before you shop for insurance or apply for a rental, because a frozen file can read as a failed verification at the other end.

Is LexisNexis opt out legit?

The form is genuine and it is run by LexisNexis Risk Solutions itself, not a third party. Legitimate is not the same as sufficient, though. Read what it says it covers: prescreen lists and direct marketing products. Anything sold as an FCRA consumer report, including insurance claims history and driving records, is outside its scope.

How to dispute a LexisNexis report

Request your consumer disclosure report first so you can quote the exact entry, then file the dispute with LexisNexis and with the company that supplied the record, such as your insurer or lender. The CFPB states that under the FCRA companies must conduct a reasonable investigation of your dispute free of charge. Send it in writing and keep copies.

Is LexisNexis free?

The consumer requests are. Your consumer disclosure report is free once every 12 months under the FACT Act, and free again after an adverse action based on it. The security freeze is free to apply, lift, and remove. Disputes are investigated free of charge. The paid LexisNexis products are the ones sold to businesses, not to you.
