The short answer

IdentityIQ is a legitimate US identity theft protection service, with four plans from $8.49 to $31.49 a month. Two things catch buyers out. Its terms rule out refunds except for IDIQ’s own errors, and although IdentityIQ advertises data broker removal, none of the four plan cards lists it.

IdentityIQ plans

IdentityIQ plans and cost, read off the pricing page

IdentityIQ sells four tiers. The price climbs mostly with credit data: how many bureaus watch your file and how often you get a full three-bureau report. Every plan includes $1 million in stolen funds reimbursement (underwritten by AIG), dark web and SSN alerts, and US-based restoration help.

Monthly prices are the list prices without the VPN and antivirus bundle. Yearly figures are the “Billed as” amounts on the same page, 15 percent below twelve monthly payments. IdentityIQ also runs a separate discount page with lower prices, so the figure you see may depend on the link that brought you there.

IdentityIQ data removal

Does IdentityIQ remove your information from data brokers?

Not on any plan you can see before paying. IdentityIQ’s own pages tell two different stories, and the reviews that rank for this question do not mention either one.

The features page says

“With IdentityIQ data removal services, we hunt down your sensitive data on these data broker websites and demand its removal.”
identityiq.com, Additional ways we protect you

The pricing page shows

Four plan cards with a dozen or more features each. Junk mail and Do Not Call opt-outs appear on all four. Data removal appears on none. It sits only in the feature glossary below the cards, which does not say which plan includes it.

Who actually files the removals

The terms of service fill in the gap. If you use IdentityIQ’s Privacy Scan feature, you authorize “CSID aka Experian Consumer Services and its service providers” to act as your agents to remove your data from data broker sites. So the removal engine is Experian’s, the same company behind the free scan we covered in our Experian Personal Privacy Scan review and behind Costco’s closed Complete ID plan.

The same clause sets the limits. The list of covered people finder sites “is subject to change without notice”, the provider may pick which sites to scan “on a scan-by-scan basis at its sole discretion”, and some removal requests “may not be honored by all covered sites”. No site count, no list and no rescan interval are published anywhere we could find.

What that means for you

  • Ask before you pay. Call 877-875-4347 and ask which plan includes Privacy Scan removal and how many sites it covers.
  • Do not count on it. A roster that can shrink without notice is not something to build a privacy plan on.
  • Check the result. Run the scan at the top of this page now and again in 60 days. The sites still listing you are the ones nobody removed.

Is IdentityIQ legit

Is IdentityIQ legit, or is IdentityIQ a scam?

IdentityIQ is legit. It is run by IDIQ, pulls credit data from Experian, Equifax and TransUnion, and its stolen funds and identity theft insurance are underwritten by AIG. It does the monitoring it advertises.

The “scam” searches come from billing. Many people meet IdentityIQ through a credit repair company or a mortgage broker who asks them to sign up for a 7-day, $1 trial so the broker can pull their reports. The trial then converts to a monthly plan. A charge from a company you did not knowingly choose, under a short descriptor, with no refund, feels like fraud even when the terms allow it.

If that is how you arrived, the fix is simple: cancel by phone before the trial ends, and write down the date and the agent’s name. If you want the monitoring, pick the plan on purpose rather than keeping whatever the trial rolled into.

Four IdentityIQ terms to read before you enter a card

These come from the IDIQ Terms of Service, section 5, which governs billing for IdentityIQ and its sister brands. They explain nearly every complaint you will read in IdentityIQ reviews.

5.7

No refunds

There are no refunds for cancellation except in the limited circumstances where there is an error impacting your account that is IDIQ's fault, or a defect in the enrollment process that is IDIQ's fault.

5.6

Phone or dashboard only

IDIQ does not accept cancellation requests by email unless it can reach you by phone to verify your identity. Cancelling a plan does not cancel your written FCRA authorization, so IDIQ may keep monitoring your credit and send you offers.

5.8

Trials can be partial

Some free or reduced-price trial offers give access to a limited subset of the plan. Full access starts only when the regular price begins, and the trial converts to that price unless you cancel first.

5.2

Silent downgrade

If your card cannot cover the full membership, IDIQ may move you to a cheaper plan without notice in order to take a payment.

IdentityIQ alternatives

IdentityIQ cost against the plans buyers compare it with

IdentityIQ is cheap for the amount of credit data you get. It is weaker on the two things this page keeps coming back to: getting your money back, and getting your address off people-search sites.

How to buy IdentityIQ without the surprises in IdentityIQ reviews

Nearly every bad review traces back to one of three things: a trial nobody tracked, a plan nobody chose, or a feature nobody checked. Four steps avoid all three.

  1. 1

    Choose the plan yourself

If a credit repair company or broker sent you, ask which plan the trial converts to and at what price. Secure Basic at $8.49 may be all you need if the goal was a credit pull.

  2. 2

Put the trial end date in your calendar

Reduced-price trials convert automatically, and charges are final under section 5.7. Cancel by phone at 877-875-4347 a day or two early if you do not want to continue.

  3. 3

Ask about Privacy Scan removal in writing

Before paying for a higher tier for privacy reasons, ask support which plan includes data broker removal and how many sites it covers. If they cannot say, assume it is not there.

  4. 4

    Run a people-search scan separately

The scan at the top of this page shows which sites publish your name, address and phone today. That list tells you whether you need a removal service on top of monitoring.

Aura Individual, $144 a year

Three bureaus, $1 million in insurance and removal from 425 or more sites.

Wants the family covered

IdentityIQ Secure Max or Aura Family

Secure Max adds $25K family insurance to one membership; Aura Family covers five adults at $384 a year.

Wants a person on the stubborn brokers

DataRemoval, from $24 a month billed yearly

Our own plan: a human works the brokers that reject automated requests, we rescan monthly, and you get a dated log of every request. It sits beside any IdentityIQ plan without overlap.

Our view, as a company that sells the removal half: IdentityIQ is good value for credit monitoring and a poor bet for privacy. It advertises removal it does not attach to a plan, and it gives no money back if you find out late. If people-search listings are what worry you, compare the plans on our pricing page with the suites above, or read how a similar suite handles it in our LifeLock data broker removal breakdown.

IdentityIQ reviews and common questions

Is IdentityIQ legit?

Yes. IdentityIQ is a real US identity theft protection service run by IDIQ, with credit data from all three bureaus and stolen funds reimbursement underwritten by AIG. The complaints are about billing, not fraud: there are no refunds except for IDIQ errors, and reduced-price trials convert to full price unless you cancel by phone or in the dashboard.

Is IdentityIQ a scam?

No. It delivers the monitoring it sells. Most people who call it a scam found a charge they did not expect, usually after a $1 trial offered through a credit repair company or lender rolled into a monthly plan. The terms allow that, and they also rule out refunds, so cancel before the trial ends if you do not want it.

How much does IdentityIQ cost?

IdentityIQ has four plans: Secure Basic at $8.49 a month, Secure Plus at $11.49, Secure Pro at $21.49 and Secure Max at $31.49. Paying yearly takes 15 percent off, so $86.61 to $321.21 a year. Adding the VPN and antivirus bundle raises each plan by $2 to $3.50 a month.

Does IdentityIQ remove your information from data brokers?

Not as a listed plan feature. IdentityIQ advertises data broker removal on its features page, but none of its four plan cards lists it. Its terms say removal runs through a Privacy Scan feature performed by Experian as your authorized agent, with a site list that can change without notice. Ask which plan includes it before you pay.

What is iiq*identityiq.com?

It is the billing descriptor IdentityIQ uses on card and bank statements, according to its FAQ. The same company can also bill as MyScoreIQ.com, CreditandDebt.com, RoadsideIQ.com, CreditBuilderIQ.com, MoneySensei.com or MySavingsIQ.com, depending on what you signed up for. Call 877-875-4347 to find out which subscription the charge belongs to.

Does IdentityIQ have a free trial?

Not usually. IdentityIQ says it does not typically offer a free trial but runs special offers, and the widely shared one is 7 days for $1, often through a credit repair company. The terms say some reduced-price trials include only part of the plan, and the trial converts to the full monthly price unless you cancel first.

How do I cancel IdentityIQ?

Call IdentityIQ customer care at 877-875-4347 during business hours, or use the cancel button under Manage Your Plan in the dashboard where it appears. Email requests are not accepted unless they reach you by phone to verify your identity. Monitoring stops at once, but cancelling does not withdraw your FCRA authorization.

Does IdentityIQ give refunds?

Almost never. Section 5.7 of the IDIQ terms says there are no refunds for cancellation unless an error on your account or a defect in enrollment was IDIQ's fault. If IDIQ itself closes your account, you also get nothing back for unused time. Treat every charge as final.

Is IdentityIQ better than LifeLock?

For credit data per dollar, IdentityIQ Secure Pro gives three-bureau monitoring for $219.19 a year. LifeLock Core costs $124.99 with two bureaus but includes some data broker removal every 90 days and a 60-day refund on annual plans. If refunds or removal matter, LifeLock is the safer buy.

Is MyScoreIQ the same company as IdentityIQ?

Yes. The IDIQ terms list MyScoreIQ.com as one of the billing descriptors for IDIQ offerings, alongside IdentityIQ.com. MyScoreIQ is sold mainly for credit reports and scores, often to people working with a credit repair company, so the same no-refund and phone cancellation rules apply.
