The short answer

Trend Micro ID Protection Standard costs $49.99 for the first year and renews at $89.99. It watches the dark web and your social accounts and blocks trackers, but no plan monitors your credit or removes your name, address or phone number from data brokers. Insurance and restoration help come only with Plus, at $69.99 for the first year.

Trend Micro ID Protection plans

Free, Standard and Plus, read off the US product page

Trend Micro sells ID Protection in three tiers. The jump from Free to Standard buys the monitoring. The jump from Standard to Plus buys the safety net: insurance and a person to call when something actually goes wrong. The two rows at the bottom are empty on every plan, and they are the two things most people expect an identity product to do.

Two details from the small print. Trend Micro says restoration and the insurance apply only to the registered user and exclude free and trial users, so the 7-day trial gives you the monitoring but not the cover. And the insurance is for US customers only, underwritten by an Assurant company through Generali’s Iris program, the same provider behind several other suites.

Trend Micro identity protection, the limit

Blocking trackers is not the same as being unlisted

The product page leads with “Stop sites from collecting your data”. That is the anti-tracking feature, and it does what it says inside your browser. It cannot reach the profiles data brokers built years ago from property records, voter files and old sign-ups, which are the pages a stranger finds when they search your name.

The same goes for the data leak check and dark web monitoring. They tell you that your email or card number turned up in a breach. They do not delete anything, and nothing on the dark web can be deleted by anyone. The one place where removal is possible is the legal, public layer: people-search sites and data brokers, which must honor opt-out requests. That layer is missing from every Trend Micro plan.

Trend Micro ID Protection cost

What two years of Trend Micro ID Protection really cost

The $49.99 on the product page is a first-year price. The store’s own price data lists the renewal at $89.99, and subscriptions bought on the Trend Micro store are set to renew automatically. Trend Micro’s help center says the renewal can be charged up to 15 days before the expiry date, after an email notice.

Standard, two years $139.98
Plus, two years at list $199.98

Year one in purple, year two in amber. Plus is shown at its $129.99 list price, which is what the store displays as the regular rate.

Turn off auto-renew in your Trend Micro account if you want to decide again at the end of the year. Bought on the official store, you also have a 30-day money-back guarantee on the purchase.

Trend Micro ID Protection inside the suites

Why the Personal Protection Suite can be the cheaper way to get Plus features

Trend Micro bundles identity features into two suites. On the US store, the Personal Protection Suite costs less in year one than ID Protection Plus and still lists up to $1 million in identity fraud insurance and 24/7 fraud support, plus scam call and text filtering and a VPN. If you were about to buy Plus, price the suite first.

Trend Micro ID Protection vs the field

If you want fewer people able to find you, compare these instead

Trend Micro is one of the cheapest ways to get dark web alerts from a big security brand. It is not in the removal business at all. The table lines it up against the antivirus brands that did add removal and the services that do nothing else, one adult, a year, each company’s own price.

McAfee is the closest like-for-like: another antivirus brand, but its Advanced tier files removal requests. Our McAfee Personal Data Cleanup review shows which tier scans only and which one removes, and the Norton Privacy Monitor Assistant review covers the Gen Digital version.

Trend Micro ID Protection review, the verdict

Four steps before you pay for Trend Micro ID Protection

  1. 1

    Name the job

Alerts after a breach, or fewer people able to find your address? Trend Micro only does the first.

  2. 2

    Price year two

Standard is $49.99 now and $89.99 next year. Put the renewal date in your calendar or turn off auto-renew.

  3. 3

    Check the suite

If you want Plus features, the Personal Protection Suite lists insurance for less in year one.

  4. 4

    Scan your listings

Run the exposure scan at the top of this page to see which people-search sites list you today.

Our honest read: Trend Micro ID Protection is a fair, inexpensive alert service from a company with thirty years in security, and the free tier is a reasonable taste of it. The reviews that call it full identity protection are generous. It watches no credit bureau, the insurance sits behind the more expensive plan, and the address and phone number a scammer uses to sound convincing stay exactly where they are. If that last part is why you are shopping, pair it with a removal service or choose a suite that removes.

Your people-search listings are the source, and Trend Micro does not touch them.

Aura Individual, $144 a year

DataRemoval, from $24 a month billed yearly

Our own plan: a human works the brokers that reject automated requests, we rescan monthly, and you get a dated log of every request. It runs fine next to Trend Micro.

If removal is the part you need, compare the plans on our pricing page with the other services in the table above. Every one of them can run next to a Trend Micro subscription without overlap.

Trend Micro ID Protection questions people ask

Is Trend Micro ID Protection worth it?

It is worth it if you want cheap dark web alerts, social account login alerts and a password manager, and you already like Trend Micro. It is not worth it if your goal is getting your address and phone number off the internet, because no plan removes anything from data brokers or people-search sites, and the price nearly doubles at renewal.

How much does Trend Micro ID Protection cost?

On the US store, Standard costs $49.99 for the first year and renews at $89.99. Plus costs $69.99 for the first year against a list price of $129.99. A free tier covers anti-tracking, social media monitoring, a data leak check and a password generator. Both paid plans start with a 7-day free trial.

What is the difference between Trend Micro ID Protection Standard and Plus?

Plus adds the parts that matter after something goes wrong: up to $1 million in identity fraud insurance for US customers, 24/7 identity theft resolution specialists, help with the police report and affidavit, creditor notification and disputes, credit freeze help and lost wallet help. The monitoring features are the same on both plans.

Does Trend Micro ID Protection remove my information from data brokers?

No. None of the three plans lists data broker or people-search removal. The anti-tracking feature blocks cookies and trackers in your browser, which stops some new collection, but listings already published on sites like Spokeo, Whitepages and BeenVerified stay online. Removal needs a separate service or a suite that includes it.

Does Trend Micro ID Protection include credit monitoring?

No. Trend Micro does not list credit bureau monitoring on any ID Protection plan. Plus includes credit freeze assistance and help notifying and disputing with creditors after fraud, which is restoration work, not monitoring. If you want alerts on new accounts, a free credit freeze at all three bureaus or a suite such as Aura covers it.

Is there a free version of Trend Micro ID Protection?

Yes. The free tier includes anti-tracking, social media account monitoring, the personal data leak check and a password generator. It has no dark web monitoring, no password manager and no insurance. Trend Micro also says restoration and insurance exclude free and trial users, so cover only starts once you pay for Plus.

What is the Trend Micro ID Protection extension?

It is the browser part of the product, available for Chrome and Edge, which runs the anti-tracking and web threat features. The apps for iOS and Android add the Wi-Fi checker. The extension blocks trackers on pages you visit, but it does not touch data brokers that already hold a profile on you.

Does Trend Micro offer refunds on ID Protection?

Trend Micro says products bought from its official online store carry a 30-day money-back guarantee. Subscriptions bought there are set to renew automatically, and its help center says the renewal charge can land up to 15 days before the expiry date, after an email notice. Purchases from other stores follow that store policy.

Which Trend Micro products include ID Protection?

ID Protection is sold on its own, and identity features are also bundled into the Personal Protection Suite ($49.95 for the first year for one user on five devices, list $79.95) and the Premium Security Suite ($109.95 for the first year for ten devices, list $154.95). Both suites mention up to $1 million in identity fraud insurance.

Is Trend Micro ID Protection better than LifeLock?

Trend Micro is cheaper in the first year, but LifeLock Core at $124.99 watches two credit bureaus and removes some people-search listings about every 90 days, and it renews at the same price. Trend Micro watches no bureau and removes nothing. For pure identity alerts on a budget, Trend Micro is fine. For being less findable, LifeLock or a removal service does more.

Trend Micro blocks trackers. Your address is still listed.
