The short answer

Kanary is a legitimate, Y Combinator backed data removal service, and the most expensive individual seat in the category: Core is $250 a year ($25 a month) and Advanced is $500 ($50 a month). That is roughly double DeleteMe's $129. Consumer Reports' 2024 test measured Kanary removing 34 percent of profiles after four months, a midlevel result. Kanary earns its price only if you need what Advanced adds: social media and AI sources, unlimited custom removals and escalation for doxxing or a real threat.

Prices, plan features and refund terms were read on 21 September 2026 from Kanary's own pricing page, FAQ and terms. The test result is from the Consumer Reports study itself. We sell a competing product, which is why every number here has a source you can check.

Kanary pricing

What Kanary charges, plan by plan

Kanary sells two consumer plans, each priced per account, and an organization plan for teams. The annual price is the default on the pricing page, labeled "2 Months free"; the monthly price appears only after you flip the billing switch. The fourth column is our arithmetic: what twelve months costs if you stay on monthly billing.

Plan Yearly Monthly 12 months paid monthly Each family member What it includes
Core $250 $25 $300 $125 a year Search engines and data brokers, monthly scans and removal requests
Advanced $500 $50 $600 $250 a year Adds social media and AI/LLMs, weekly and daily scans, unlimited custom removals, attorney general escalation
Team Not published Not published Not published Not applicable An organization account, five seats minimum, priced by sales

6.4x

Kanary Core's $250 against Optery Core's $39, the cheapest entry seat with a published broker count. Against Incogni Standard at $95.88 it is 2.6 times.

$70

The 2024 price Consumer Reports tested was $179.88 a year. Core now costs $70.12 more, and the $16.99 monthly rate some reviews still quote is gone too.

*

Kanary marks five Advanced features with an asterisk that reads "Advanced configurations may have additional costs." So $500 is the floor for Advanced, not a promised total.

Two things about the rate card are easy to miss. First, many of the reviews ranking for Kanary still describe a free plan with a handful of automated removals and a 14-day trial. Kanary's FAQ now says plainly that it "does not offer a free tier at this time", and no trial is advertised. Second, the family discount is generous in percentage terms and still expensive in dollars: a household of four on Core pays $625 a year, where DeleteMe's four-person plan is $329 and Incogni Family covers up to five for $191.88. Our family plan cost comparison prices every household plan per seat if that is your decision.

Kanary vs DeleteMe

Kanary vs DeleteMe, seat by seat: DeleteMe is cheaper at every household size

These two are compared more than any other pair Kanary appears in, and they are not selling quite the same thing. DeleteMe is a removal service with a human advisor for households. Kanary is closer to an incident service: its Advanced plan is written for "targeted individuals", and the features that cost the extra money are the ones you reach for when somebody is actively looking for you.

Where DeleteMe is the better buy

You want the big people-search sites cleared for yourself or a family, and you want a named person on the account. DeleteMe covers 986 brokers on every plan, includes 40 custom requests a year on the standard plan, and costs roughly half. Our DeleteMe review covers what those 986 mean in practice.

Where Kanary is the better buy

You are being doxxed, harassed or stalked, or your job makes you a target, and you need social media profiles, AI chatbot sources and one-off pages chased without a yearly cap. Kanary Advanced is the only consumer plan we track that names AI/LLM sources and attorney general escalation. You can also leave after one month, which DeleteMe's prepaid plans do not allow.

The independent test

Consumer Reports measured Kanary at 34 percent. The cheapest services doubled it.

In August 2024 Consumer Reports published the only public head-to-head test of removal services we know of. Seven services, including Kanary, tried to remove volunteers' profiles from 13 people-search sites. Table 2 of the report lists Kanary at $179.88 a year, removing 16 percent of profiles within a week, 26 percent within a month and 34 percent within four months. The report calls DeleteMe, IDX and Kanary "midlevel performers."

Optery

68%

Removed at four months. Core is $39 a year today.

EasyOptOuts

65%

Removed at four months, at $19.99 a year, the cheapest service tested.

Kanary

34%

Removed at four months. It now costs $250 a year on Core.

The caveats travel with the number. The test is two years old, it covered only 13 people-search sites, and Kanary's product has changed since. The report's overall conclusion was that the category is largely ineffective and that manual opt-outs removed about 70 percent. Kanary's own FAQ claims removal rates of 90 to 95 percent within 90 to 120 days for members who act on its prompts, and 60 to 80 percent for members who do not, and its terms say "your responsiveness dictates the success of data removals." Read together, that is the honest picture: Kanary asks you to do some of the work, and the removal rate depends on whether you do.

Kanary data removal: what it covers, and what only Advanced reaches

Kanary does not publish a broker count per plan, and it quotes three different numbers for the whole service. The FAQ says it has worked across "more than 68k unique sites." Its removal page says 55,482 unique sites where it has found personal information. The browsable site list on that same page showed 284 when we read it, including chatgpt.com and openai.com. The first two describe everywhere Kanary has ever found somebody. The third is closer to a roster.

Core and Advanced

Search engines

Kanary removes the listing at the source, then asks Google to drop the stale link, which its FAQ says usually takes about seven days.

Core and Advanced

Data brokers

Managed opt-outs to people-search and broker sites, monthly on Core. Core covers "the highest-traffic sources", Advanced "full site coverage".

Advanced only

Social media

Profiles and posts on LinkedIn, X and YouTube, per Kanary's FAQ. Negative news articles, photos and videos are excluded.

Advanced only

AI and LLM sources

The one surface no other plan we track names. Nobody outside Kanary has measured how well it works.

Advanced also changes the cadence. Core scans and files monthly. Advanced adds weekly and daily scans, weekly removal requests, unlimited custom removals, address confidentiality enrollment, attorney general escalation for brokers that ignore requests, priority response and incident research. That list is the real argument for Kanary. It is a response kit for somebody under pressure, and a household that simply wants its address off Whitepages is paying for most of it without using it.

What every service advertises, against what the entry plan reaches

We keep this table across every vendor review on the site, because the gap between a headline coverage figure and the coverage on the plan you buy is where most of the disappointment in this category lives. Kanary gates the way Optery, OneRep and Privacy Bee do, by tier, but with the biggest price step: the second tier costs exactly double.

Kanary reviews: what the ratings can and cannot tell you

Apple App Store, US

4.9

From 75 US ratings for "Kanary: Safeguard your privacy", read from Apple's public app lookup on 21 September 2026. A small sample, and in-app prompts tend to lift store ratings.

Trustpilot

1 review

Kanary's claimed Trustpilot profile holds a single two-star review and a 3.3 TrustScore, with "no recent history of asking for reviews." There is nothing there to read either way.

So the review base is thin, which is normal for a premium service with a small customer count (Kanary's About page says it is "loved by over 20,000 people"). The more useful evidence is structural. Kanary is SOC 2 audited by its own account, although one badge on its terms page reads "Type 2 Compliant" and another reads "In Progress". Its terms state that it "cannot guarantee 100% of removals," which is true of every service here. And the independent test put it in the middle of the field. None of that says avoid it. It says the premium buys features, not a better removal rate.

How to decide on Kanary before you pay

1

See where you are listed

Run the scan at the top of this page. It shows which people-search sites publish you now, the part every service on this page competes on.

2

Name your actual problem

Listings on the big people-search sites are a coverage problem. A stalker, doxxing or a leaked address on social media is an incident, and that is what Advanced is priced for.

3

Price the household

Kanary's family discount still leaves four people at $625 a year on Core. Compare it against DeleteMe's $329 or Incogni Family's $191.88 before you add seats.

4

Start on one month

The 30-day guarantee covers your first month only, so $25 on Core or $50 on Advanced is the cheapest way to see what Kanary finds before you commit to a year.

Kanary against the alternatives, price and coverage

Every price is the standard individual annual rate from the vendor's own page. The nearest like-for-like comparison for Kanary Core is not DeleteMe at all but the premium tiers with custom removals: Incogni Unlimited at $179.88 and Optery Ultimate at $249.

Annual price, coverage and refund window for eight data removal plans
Service Annual price Coverage Refund window Worth knowing
Kanary Core $250.00 Highest-traffic sources, count not published per plan 30 days on the first month Google suppression after source removal
Kanary Advanced $500.00 Full coverage plus social media and AI/LLMs 30 days on the first month Unlimited custom removals, AG escalation
EasyOptOuts $19.99 216 itemized 150 days Removal only, rescans 3 times a year
Optery Core $39.00 380+, or 150+ without Expanded Reach 30 days, individual accounts Exposure report with screenshots
Incogni Standard $95.88 420+ 30 days Reaches marketing and enrichment brokers
DeleteMe $129.00 986 No window published Human privacy advisor, 40 custom requests a year
Incogni Unlimited $179.88 420+ plus custom removals 30 days Unlimited custom requests
Optery Ultimate $249.00 635+ plus custom removals across 950+ 30 days, individual accounts The nearest match to Kanary Core on price

For custom removals at a lower price, Incogni Unlimited covers 420+ brokers and takes unlimited requests for sites you name for $70.12 less than Kanary Core. Optery Ultimate costs a dollar less than Core, publishes a 635+ roster with custom removals across 950+, and was the top performer in the same Consumer Reports test. If you already looked at Privacy Bee's premium tiers, our Privacy Bee vs Kanary pricing comparison sets those side by side.

Is Kanary worth it? Who it is right for

Buy Advanced

You are a target right now

Doxxing, a stalker, a public-facing job, a leaked home address on social media. Daily scans, uncapped custom removals and attorney general escalation are worth $500 when the cost of a listing staying up is your safety.

Think twice

You are weighing Core

Core at $250 has neither social media nor AI sources, scans monthly like cheaper services, and does not publish a roster. Optery Ultimate and Incogni Unlimited give you custom removals for the same money or less.

Look elsewhere

You want a household cleaned up

If the goal is getting everyone's address and phone off people-search sites, DeleteMe, Incogni and EasyOptOuts do that for a fraction of the price, and two of them beat Kanary's measured result.

The whole field is ranked on price, coverage and independent results in our best data removal services roundup, and our own plans start at $108 a year for one person, with custom removals on the Executive tier. Whichever you choose, find out which sites publish you before you commit to a year of anything.

Kanary: common questions

How much does Kanary cost?

Kanary Core costs $250 a year or $25 a month, and Kanary Advanced costs $500 a year or $50 a month, per person, on Kanary's pricing page read 21 September 2026. Family members get 50 percent off: $125 a year on Core, $250 on Advanced. Team accounts start at five seats and are priced by sales.

Is Kanary legit?

Yes. Kanary is run by Kanaries Inc., founded in Chicago by Rachel Vrabec, backed by Y Combinator and launched in 2020. It was one of seven services Consumer Reports tested in 2024. The fair criticism is not legitimacy but results: that study measured Kanary removing 34 percent of profiles after four months.

Kanary vs DeleteMe: which is better?

For most households, DeleteMe. It costs $129 a year against Kanary Core's $250, lists 986 brokers and was also rated a midlevel performer by Consumer Reports. Kanary is the better buy if you are dealing with doxxing or a specific threat and want social media, AI sources and unlimited custom removals, which only its $500 Advanced plan includes.

Does Kanary have a free version?

No. Kanary's own FAQ says it "does not offer a free tier at this time." Older reviews describe a free plan with a few automated removals and a 14-day trial; both are gone. The nearest thing to a trial is the 30-day money-back guarantee on your first month, which makes $25 the cheapest way to test it.

Does Kanary offer refunds?

Yes, on the first month. Kanary's FAQ says you can "cancel anytime with a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first month" and that you can upgrade, downgrade, pause or switch plans at any time. The guarantee is tied to the first month, so start on monthly billing if you want the refund to cover your whole outlay.

How many sites does Kanary remove you from?

Kanary does not publish a per-plan count. Its FAQ says it has worked across more than 68,000 unique sites, its removal page says 55,482, and its public site list showed 284 when we read it. Core covers "the highest-traffic sources" and Advanced adds "full site coverage" plus social media and AI/LLM sources.

Does Kanary remove information from Google?

Indirectly. Kanary removes the listing at the source site, then asks Google to suppress the stale link, which its FAQ says typically resolves in about seven days once the source is clean. For doxxing, harassment or threat-related results, Google will suppress the page directly, and Kanary files that for you.

Does Kanary remove data from ChatGPT and other AI tools?

Only on Advanced. Kanary's pricing table lists AI/LLMs as a covered site type on Advanced and not on Core, and its public site list includes chatgpt.com and openai.com. No independent test has measured how well that works, and Kanary notes that Advanced configurations may carry additional costs.

What is the difference between Kanary Core and Advanced?

Both scan monthly and send managed removal requests to search engines and data brokers. Advanced, at $500 instead of $250, adds social media and AI/LLM sources, weekly and daily scans, weekly removal requests, unlimited custom removals, address confidentiality enrollment, attorney general escalation, priority response and incident research.

Is Kanary available outside the US?

Mostly US. Kanary's FAQ says it "works best if you are a US resident or citizen, or have a US work or residential address", has recently expanded to UK users, and supports other international members only in certain cases. Its removal requests rely largely on US state privacy laws and US people-search sites.
